2nd Annual Prom Boutique

Hope Wears A Gown

“Prom Boutique” sponsored by Communities In Schools of Peninsula

helps girls find free dresses for their much-anticipated senior dance.

An ordinary staff room at Peninsula High School has been transformed like Cinderella into a beautiful, well-lit dress boutique, thanks to Communities In Schools of Peninsula. Here, high school girls will start their own Cinderella stories, when they choose their gowns for the upcoming senior ball.  The Prom Boutique, in its 2nd year, offers free prom dresses to high school students who might otherwise not be able to afford to purchase the attire.

The boutique is the brainchild of Wendy Wojtanowicz, a Site Coordinator for Communities In Schools of Peninsula who heard that several of her students worried they wouldn’t be able to afford going to the dance: “Prom is a big deal for these kids but it is extremely expensive, and not all families have the financial means to make this rite of passage become a reality.    Communities In Schools of Peninsula is about helping kids in need and building them up.  It’s a joy to be a part of something like this.”

Wojtanowicz says the outpouring of generosity from the community has been heartwarming.  So far more than 100 dresses in various styles, colors, and sizes have been donated, with more coming in every day. This year, the boutique will also offer formalwear for young men as well, including tuxedos, dress jackets, shirts and ties.

The Prom Boutique will open its doors on March 30 and run through April 14, 2017. Donations will be accepted until April 10th and can dropped off at the main office at Peninsula High School.

Communities In Schools of Peninsula (CISP) is part of the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, working in public schools to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.  In the Peninsula School District last year, CISP site coordinators helped 3,630 students overcome barriers to success, stay on track to graduate, and aim for a brighter future.

Donations are welcome in all styles and sizes.
