Husky Helpers is a program that helps struggling students connect with school, encourages positive choices socially and academically and helps students make changes in their attitudes so they are capable of succeeding in school and in life. Referred students are paired up with high school students who engage them in conversation, encourage them and have fun with them through art, games and community service projects.
In the past, Husky Helpers has raised money for Haitian earthquake relief, Japan tsunami relief and the Tacoma Humane Society by creating and selling artwork. The children have made birdhouses, mosaic flower pots, and picture frames. They have also helped raise money for literacy programs by mosaicking benches for raffle.
